1. Purpose and Overview
The Minnesota Dodgeball Athlete Financial Assistance Fund (AFAF) provides support to players who need help covering the cost of league or tournament registrations or open gym punch cards. The goal of this fund is to promote inclusivity by reducing financial barriers, ensuring every member of our community has the opportunity to participate and play.
2. Eligibility and Process
Eligibility: All players in good standing with Minnesota Dodgeball are eligible to apply for financial assistance. Approved applicants will receive a credit that can be applied toward:
- League or tournament registration fees, or
- Open gym punch card purchases
No financial or personal documentation is required, and players are encouraged to apply regardless of their financial background or circumstances.
Application Process: Applications are available year-round on the Minnesota Dodgeball website or via this form and accepted on a rolling basis. Players may also choose to volunteer at a nonprofit or community organization as part of their participation. Applications are reviewed twice per year — in January and June. Submissions after June will be held for the next review cycle.
Selection Process: Applications are reviewed by an internal advisory council or committee. Selections are based on the criteria outlined below, and players will be notified of decisions shortly after each review period — typically by the end of January or June.
Distribution Process: Approved players will receive a credit corresponding to their intended use of funds as indicated in their application. Credits are distributed after the review period concludes.
Annual Limit: To ensure fairness and sustainability, up to 10 players per year may receive assistance. Applicants not selected are encouraged to reapply in future cycles and may receive priority consideration. If additional funds become available, more awards may be distributed.
3. Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed holistically, with priority given to players who demonstrate:
- Good Sportsmanship and Positive Attitude: Players who consistently exhibit respectful, fair, and inclusive behavior on and off the court. This includes bringing enthusiasm, optimism, and a positive attitude to practices, matches, and league activities, enhancing the overall experience for everyone.
- Community Contribution and Engagement: Players who actively contribute to fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere within the Minnesota Dodgeball community. This includes encouraging and motivating others, promoting teamwork, and participating in or organizing events, charity initiatives, or other community-driven projects.
- Commitment to Minnesota Dodgeball: Players who demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting Minnesota Dodgeball through consistent participation in events, spreading awareness of the league, and engaging with the organization’s initiatives. This includes sharing their passion for the sport and the community both within and outside the league.
- Volunteerism and Giving Back: Players who show a dedication to giving back to the community by volunteering their time and efforts for Minnesota Dodgeball events, fundraising activities, or other outreach efforts that strengthen the organization’s impact.
4. Volunteer Commitment for Approved Players
While not required, recipients are encouraged to volunteer at least 2 hours per approval cycle at a local nonprofit or community organization. This reflects our values of inclusivity, equity, and community impact.
- Bonus Credit: Players who complete volunteer hours will receive an additional $15 credit, stackable with other codes.
- Nonprofit Selection: Players may choose from pre-approved nonprofits (see Appendix A) or propose one aligned with Minnesota Dodgeball’s values. Causes supporting LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s autonomy, or environmental sustainability are especially encouraged.
- Proof of Hours: Proof of service (confirmation email, supervisor note, or volunteer receipt) can be submitted within 90 days to community@minnesotadodgeball.com. Deadlines are flexible to accommodate schedules.
5. Fund Usage and Credit Code Use
Credit: Approved players will receive a credit to their account. This credit can be used during registration for any league or tournament, or for purchasing an open gym punch card within that year.
6. Record-Keeping and Review
- Record Management: All applications, approvals, and volunteer documentation will be securely stored in an internal system for three years.
- Biannual Review: The fund’s balance, distribution, and sustainability will be reviewed twice per year (January and July).
- Annual Limit: No more than 10 recipients per year will be approved in accordance with policy.
7. Confidentiality & Code of Conduct
All application materials and communications are kept strictly confidential and accessible only to the review committee.
Recipients must continue to uphold the Minnesota Dodgeball Code of Conduct, fostering respect, fairness, and community spirit. Violations may affect future eligibility.
8. Renewal and Fund Sustainability
The AFAF is funded through a combination of:
- Allocations from Minnesota Dodgeball’s operating budget
- Community donations, sponsorships, and potential grants
The number of awards each year may vary depending on available resources.
9. Communication with Recipients
Approved recipients may be invited to complete a brief, optional survey about their experience with the AFAF. Feedback will be used to strengthen and refine the program while maintaining confidentiality.
