Player Impact Committees

What They Are

Player Impact Committees bring players into Minnesota Dodgeball’s decision-making. Chaired by members of the Advisory Council, each committee is made up of active participants who represent the different corners of our community.

They shape everything we offer: leagues, tournaments, open gyms, social events, and new initiatives.

The purpose is to:

Strengthen our programs through feedback, ideas, and collaborative problem-solving.
Increase engagement by helping shape events and the overall player experience.
Support diversity, equity, and inclusion by elevating underrepresented voices and identifying barriers.
Represent players from every part of the organisation: WTNB, Lavender, Open, Premier, tournaments, and open gyms.
Build a more connected and empowered community through shared leadership.

Applying

Applications open each September. The Advisory Council reviews them in November and December and selects members for the following year.

Terms run one year, January through December. Returning members reapply each year. Selections balance diversity, experience and insight so a range of player voices is represented.

Applicants hear in December whether they have been selected, and new members are announced to the community in January.

How Meetings Run

Committees meet monthly or bi-monthly depending on the committee, on Zoom. Each meeting is led by a member of the Advisory Council and covers:

Updates and talking points from the business
Agenda items brought by committee members
Review of official committee governance documents

What We Ask

A genuine desire to help grow the sport
Willingness to plan, support and execute committee initiatives
Active presence in Discord and responsive communication
Not being in poor disciplinary standing with Minnesota Dodgeball
A completed and signed Volunteer Acknowledgment Form

Time commitment. One to two virtual meetings a month, 30 to 60 minutes each.

Your annual membership fee fully covered. League, tournament and open gym fees are separate.

Our Committees

Dodgeball Governance · 12–15 members

Four to five active participants from each identity group (WTNB, Lavender, and Open/Premier). This committee supports the Advisory Council in shaping programming and owns rule development and interpretation, balancing USA Dodgeball standards against what our community actually needs.

Key responsibilities

Act as the voice of players in their identity group, carrying feedback and concerns to leadership.
Oversee rule development and interpretation so calls stay consistent across leagues.
Help shape league formats, scheduling, tournament structure and program improvements.
Coordinate with other committees and league managers to keep leagues aligned.
Attend monthly league-specific and full-committee meetings.
Support initiatives that grow the league and improve the community experience.
Identify opportunities for innovation, inclusivity and long-term sustainability.

Player & Ref Development · 3 members

Builds and maintains the programs that help players and referees grow, from youth through adult. Coaching, skill development, mentorship, officiating standards, and clear pathways to progress.

Key responsibilities

Develop training materials, drills and skill-building programs for every level.
Organise coaching sessions, workshops and clinics.
Provide referee training, resources and ongoing support so officiating stays consistent.
Oversee stats collection and reporting procedures.
Mentor new and existing players and referees as they settle in.
Build progression pathways from youth leagues to adult competitive play, and from new to experienced officials.
Establish youth events and neighbourhood programs that open the sport to new players.
Gather feedback from players, captains and referees, and act on it.

Community & Inclusion · 3 members

Builds a connected and welcoming community through social experiences and outreach, and works to increase participation from communities that are underrepresented in the sport.

Key responsibilities

Plan and run at least three social events a year.
Develop initiatives that improve engagement, retention and belonging.
Lead outreach to people of colour, LGBTQ+ players and other marginalised groups, reducing barriers to joining.
Align community and inclusion goals with the wider organisation.
Gather player feedback and use it to improve events and outreach.
Promote events across social media, newsletters and other channels.
Be a friendly point of contact for new and prospective players.
